The Anime Babylon Effect

Next week I'm going skiing in Austria, but it suddenly hit me : German is the common language in Austria.
I used to be not all too bad at German but after 10 years of not using it, I found out my vocabulary has become limited to whatever German was used in the Weiss Kreuz and Elfen Lied series.
The vocabulary limitation now bothers me, but not as much as the fact I seem to have taken over the Japanese accent too.
I can't wait for the first Austrian I meet to say: That's one messed up accent, where the heck are you from ?

Now that I've re-started drawing, I think I really need a cool signature to keep all the image-thieves from steali... Oh stop laughing !

Ugly Bishies

Did I mention I draw ugly bishies? Isn’t “ugly bishie” an oxymoron? And aren’t I asking too many questions?
I just fear that I’ll hear a knock on the door, open it and receive a well-placed fist to face by a disgruntled fan for giving their favourite hunk an extreme make-over of doom.

I can’ t draw.
I mean it. I couldn’t draw to save my life. Which of course brings up the question: “Who ever had to draw something to save his/her life?” Which ones of us were forced by organized crime to choose between drawing Mickey Mouse or losing their kneecaps?
But I digress.
I have an unbridled admiration for people who have the talent to bring the images in their minds onto paper, making other people go “ooh” and “aah”.
What these people do is not easy. They sometimes make it look easy (which is also an incredible talent) but in those cases you are being fooled. How I know this? Because I too gave drawing a shot.
Almost a year ago, after succesfully bringing over Uende (CHX) to the dark side that is the Saint Seiya series, and inspired by the beautiful artwork she was delivering on a regular bases, the idea for a few cartoons featuring the series’ protagonists came to mind.
But I found out I can’t draw. I need tons of reference material and hours of doodling in order to create something vaguely reminiscent of its original. I wasn’t a happy camper.
However, when I showed Uende the cartoons, they made her laugh and I got a similar response from Anime-Betamembers who knew of Saint Seiya when I made them part of a cel update. After that I got lazy and couldn’t come up with new things.
Recently, Uende gave me a new idea for a cartoon and from that impulse I started drawing again, revealing a new fact :
I CAN DRAW… but very, very very, very ugly !
